چکیده
Abst ract. This pap er pr esents th e applica tion of signal flow gra phs to the det ermination of the exact values of gradient vecto r and hessian matrix for a linear system. It is shown all information about the gradient and hessian is cont ained in the or iginal and adjoint signa l flow graphs at different terminations. To det ermine the gra dient we have to perform two analyses , and t o get the full hessian matrix we perform (2K + 1) ana lyses of the graph (or t he system), where K is the nu mb er of internal nodes of the graph . T he examples included in the pap er illust rate the met hod.

Using an Efficient Penalty Method for Solving Linear Least Square Problem with Nonlinear Constraints
In this paper, we use a penalty method for solving the linear least squares problem with nonlinear constraints. In each iteration of penalty methods for solving the problem, the calculation of projected Hessian matrix is required. Given that the objective function is linear least squares, projected Hessian matrix of the penalty function consists of two parts that the exact amount of a part of i...
متن کاملCovariance selection for nonchordal graphs via chordal embedding
We describe algorithms for maximum likelihood estimation of Gaussian graphical models with conditional independence constraints. This problem is also known as covariance selection, and it can be expressed as an unconstrained convex optimization problem with a closed-form solution if the underlying graph is chordal. The focus of the paper is on iterative algorithms for covariance selection with ...
متن کاملSecond-order adjoint state methods for Full Waveform Inversion
Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) applications classically rely on efficient first-order optimization schemes, as the steepest descent or the nonlinear conjugate gradient optimization. However, second-order information provided by the Hessian matrix is proven to give a useful help in the scaling of the FWI problem and in the speed-up of the optimization. In this study, we propose an efficient matri...
متن کاملSuperlinearly convergent exact penalty projected structured Hessian updating schemes for constrained nonlinear least squares: asymptotic analysis
We present a structured algorithm for solving constrained nonlinear least squares problems, and establish its local two-step Q-superlinear convergence. The approach is based on an adaptive structured scheme due to Mahdavi-Amiri and Bartels of the exact penalty method of Coleman and Conn for nonlinearly constrained optimization problems. The structured adaptation also makes use of the ideas of N...
متن کاملPerformance optimization of integrated network control schemes in packet-switched networks
Integrated schemes of routing, flow control, and congestion control in packet-switched networks are investigated for performance optimization. By utilizing the features of entry-to-exit routing and sliding window flow-control mechanism, the packet-switched networks are modeled as multi-chain, closed queueing networks. After the control parameters and objective function are introduced, an effici...
